Will You Stop For The One?

Heidi Baker works with Iris Ministries, especially with the Stop For The One child sponsorship program. One of my friends, activist Claire Johnston, has been working with this ministry during her Miss California campaigns. You can visit www.irismin.org for more information on Stop For The One.

Resistance Is Futile: You Will Be Assimilated

As of the latest count, five friends and myself will be going to Comic Con next summer. Over my original protests that I would NOT dress up like anything, several of these miscreants have slowly plodded toward the decision to dress up as Doctor Who characters. I can buy this, as everybody wears pretty normal stuff, so I agreed.

Which means....beside all the stuff for my Hatter costume (which I hope to have done by Halloween), I am now setting out on a journey to recreate a lot of Doctor Who stuff. I spent a good hour today tracking down a replica of the Doctor's most recent jacket, so...there's a lot to come.

Anyway, the breakdown so far is: 1 Doctor, 1 Amy Pond, 1 River Song and 1 Weeping Angel. I'm River, Wyrmir is the Doctor, Tina is Amy, and Ithi is the Angel. We're still trying to figure out which costumes we want to use (Ithi's the lucky one, since the Weeping Angels always wear the same sort of thing), so if you feel a burning desire to suggest or request a specific costume, please comment and do so. If I get enough feedback, I may put the top suggested River costumes up on a poll and let you all decide. But that's just maybe.

I'm really looking forward to next summer.

100 Years in 100 Seconds: A Century of Fashion

My dad found this while trawling though one of his many "Oo, wow, look at this cool stuff" sites. He found this one about the same time that he discovered something I already knew: thousands of women apply dead beetles to their lips every day. This is much more fascinating than dead, ground up boiled beetles, and I think it is fitting to a blog that often revolves around fashion. Take a look and be impressed.

Ruby Red Slippers

I'm serious about my ruby slippers. These candy apple red shoes with five inch heels are an absolute gem. While I was on vacation, my family and I went to Burlington Coat Factory. My dad called me over after a few minutes in the shoe section and told me he had to show me something.  It was these amazing red shoes from Madden Girl. Price? $20.

He bought them for me.

The only thing that could have made it better is if we had found these BEFORE I went to Kansas. I had been hunting for a pair of red shoes not unlike these, but I failed miserably, and instead arrived in Kansas in flipflops. I'm still ecstatic about these shoes, though. I wore them to a dinner the other day, with a blue cocktail-esque dress. Someone told me I should add some white so I could be patriotic. I told them I was white enough to qualify.

So this is the story of my red shoes, my amazing, awesome, tall ruby slippers. Kansas, next time I come through, know this.

I'm ready.

Baby Doctors

Okay, so, while I'm traveling, I delved into my cache of cool items, and I came up with a few interesting ones. Because I'm not at home, I don't have the leisure to expound upon the huge clothing wisdom that is mine, so I'm sticking to quotes, pictures, and links.

Have fun. I had another onesie that was really cool, but now I can't find it. :(

"Are you really a babysitter?"
*Doctor pulls out Psychic Paper*
"I think you'll find that I'm universally recognized as a mature and responsible adult."
"It's... just a lot of wavy lines."
"Yeah. Shorted out. Finally, a lie too big."

*a little while later*
"That's disgusting! What is that?"
"Its an apple."
"Apple's rubbish. I hate apples. Yogurt's my favorite, give me yogurt."

Wireless-less: Travel Woes

I am writing this on my cell phone. It is nearlyimpossible to read what I've written and impossible to load photos. My hotel is mean, in that it wants me to pay forty bucks to use the wireless while I am here ( unless I tromp downstairs and sit by the registration desk with my laptop--then I can get wireless for free).

I found this out after I had snuggled in my pjs. I am not going to change to use their wireless. So I am confined to my 3G network.

However, updates on progress: I am now in Indiana, working at a conference. My average bedtime for the last week has been 2:30 AM. Average wake-up at 7:30 or 8:00. I'm running on cahfeh and energy drinks (BWAHAHAHhahahajaja!!!) and some guy at a convenience store told me I was going to be really crazy with all those energy drinks.

He was wrong. I'm crazy naturally.
