Madman With a Box: A Doctor Who Request

So, the other day, one of my friends and I (yes, it was yet another Rose. I seem to have a lot of Roses that end up on my blog. I might just starting making a tag for you girls.) were talking, and she mentioned how she really wanted to get something that said "definitely a madman with a box." Since I happen to have discovered some items that deal with both madmen and boxes, I have composed this for her perusal. I fully expect to find one of these items in her possession sometime soon. Probably about the time I buy the "Come Along, Pond!" book bag. I need one, anyway. I'm getting tired of having to not drop books or papers and control my purse and go down stairs while turning on my phone. Very inconvenient.

Allons-y!

....because, who doesn't want to fly around with a mad man in a box for a year or two?
from This Is Pop! at cafépress, and comes in a variety of t-shirts and bags and...stuff.

Just in case we get snowed in by accident this winter, some cross-stitch.

Dorm room decoration. We all need it.

Definitely a madman with a box ring and bracelet
from foxwise at etsy

Just in case you want to be the madman with the box.

And finally....
The Doctor Who Surprise Package, which, like the TARDIS, is filled with a lot of things, but you never know what you are going to pull out.

Alice in Wonderland Party Jewelry

I recently found some cute Alice in Wonderland jewelry. I thought I would go ahead and put this up, if anyone is interested. This definitely isn't costume jewelry, but I think it has a fun party feel to it--not too dressy, but not too professional. As Goldilocks would say, "Juuuuust right!" All of these pieces are made by mundoinlui on etsy.

The bracelet and earrings both have glass pearls in them, which add a bit of a shiny effect. I personally think it would have been cute to somehow work the pearl into the necklace, too, but, unfortunately, that was not so. The bracelet has a little teapot, which is inscribed with a word you would never guess. Give up? Alright, it says "tea." Ingenious, isn't it? The bracelet is incredibly cute, although I am afraid that my personal favorite in this set is the earrings.

The earrings are adorable, with little rabbits peeking out at the world, one ear bent quizzically at us. The pearls are like the pearls in the bracelet, and can be ordered to match. All in all, I think this is a great combination. It is fun, light hearted, and themed. Now, let's all go have a big unbirthday party!

I'm Having A Meltdown

Which means you all get to suffer. I'm working on all the reasons why some professors are like the god the atheists claim they don't believe in.

If I stop believing in my schoolwork, will that make it go away, too?

These two video clips sum up how I feel about college right now.

Confucius Say....

My Chinese fortune cookie had two fortunes: "Speak less of your plans--you will get more of them done." and "You'll accomplish more later if you take some time for yourself." Translation: stop talking about taking a nap and go do it. I shall take this advice.

I ♥ My Job

I did a gross moulage make-up demonstration tonight. Which is, of course, awesome. I had a lot of fun, and now I'm really tired and not ready to do more school tomorrow. Anyway, if you're interested in movie make up, watch this music video, and then you can watch the making-of video here. Of course, I didn't work on this, but when they're dirtying up the guy that dies, you'll get a small taste of what I do. ;) And, of course, this music is from Blackmore's Night, so it is absolutely amazing. This is, actually, the song that introduced me to their music.

A Hint for Yesterday's Mindbender

Take thirty pennies (or skittles, or something small and round) and lay them out on a table. Then, moving the change around, see where the extra penny went to.

Mindbender Pop Quiz

Someday, maybe, I shall tell you what I define a mindbender as. For now, enjoy this small project that may make you go mad. Let me know if you can't figure it out, and I may be merciful and give a hint.

Three guys go into a motel to get a room. The room is $30, so each of them pays $10. Afterward, the desk clerk realized she'd made a mistake. The room was only $25. So she gave the bellboy five singles to return to them. On the way up he figured to take a cut, so he put $2 in his pocket and gave them each a single back.
So then, each man paid ten and got one back, ...each paid $9, ...right? $9 times three equals $27, and the bellboy took $2. That equals $29. Where's the missing dollar?

Doctor's Companion: Amelia Pond

"Its a duck pond."
"Why aren't there any ducks?"
"There's never been any ducks!"
"Then HOW do you know it is a DUCK pond??"

I'm Amelia and you're late.
What happened?
Twelve years.
You hit me with a cricket bat!
Twelve years!
Cricket bat!

Four?
I kept biting them.
Why?
They said you weren't real.

It played for me.
The difference being the computer doesn't register me as human.
Why not? You look human...
No, you look Time Lord. We came first.

Hey, look at this. I got my spaceship, I got my boys... my work here is done.
We are not her "boys."
....Yeah, we are.

Amy Pond, the girl who waited. You've waited long enough.
When I was a kid, you said there was a swimming pool and a library and the swimming pool was in the library.
Yeah, not sure where it's got to now. It'll turn up. So, coming?
No.
You wanted to come fourteen years ago.
I grew up.
Don't worry, I'll soon fix that.

Ruby Red Slippers

I'm serious about my ruby slippers. These candy apple red shoes with five inch heels are an absolute gem. While I was on vacation, my family and I went to Burlington Coat Factory. My dad called me over after a few minutes in the shoe section and told me he had to show me something.  It was these amazing red shoes from Madden Girl. Price? $20.

He bought them for me.

The only thing that could have made it better is if we had found these BEFORE I went to Kansas. I had been hunting for a pair of red shoes not unlike these, but I failed miserably, and instead arrived in Kansas in flipflops. I'm still ecstatic about these shoes, though. I wore them to a dinner the other day, with a blue cocktail-esque dress. Someone told me I should add some white so I could be patriotic. I told them I was white enough to qualify.

So this is the story of my red shoes, my amazing, awesome, tall ruby slippers. Kansas, next time I come through, know this.

I'm ready.

A College Rant

17 units. I'm on campus every day of the workweek, and I am so blessed as to have internet classes too. Right now, I want to go to sleep, but I'm refusing to, as I can sleep in a little tomorrow morning. My 100% internet class is confusing.

I think I am confusing, right now. And on top of all of that are the red shoes, which I still haven't been able to show off to all of you.

Just FYI, I spent just under $100 for two books a few moments ago.

Pray for me.

Turtle!

Someone posted this on their tumblr. It is cute. I wish I could crochet like that.
Fall semester at my college starts tomorrow morning. I'm not ready.
I'm really not ready to start school. I just got home.
I want to curl up like a baby turtle.
Turtles are really kinda cute.
And its so fluffeh
I'm gonna
DIE.

I'm Home

After nearly three weeks away from home, I pulled into my own driveway around midnight last night. I'm dead tired, but I have some kinda fancy-shmancy thing to go to tonight. We shall see how long I last. I'm tempted to wear the red shoes I got while traveling, but who knows. I need to decide something in the next hour.

Oh yeah, you haven't seen the shoes yet.

They. are. AWESOME. I'll post pictures, soon.

Down With The Bloody Big Head: Missing Fingers

So, I'm taking a break from Dr. Who to look back at my Mad Hatter costume. I think I've settled on an idea for gloves, as the Hatter does wear fingerless gloves, but, as I have complained before, they are plaid (I hate plaid). I have fallen in love with these lace ones. I think they would be quite pretty and fit the idea of the costume quite well if they were perhaps tie-dyed. I would probably do the dyeing on my own, but I shall see. ZenandCoffee, the maker of these gloves, can make them in a variety of fabrics and colors, so I might order one that is colored.

Other fun options that I ran across included these checkered ones from ForwardMotionArt (a nice break from plaid, but not quite up to what I wanted specifically). Fun, cute, inventive....and not quite what I wanted. I dunno. It seems funny to say that these are too "young" for me, but that is the sort of feeling that I get. Perhaps someone else could put them to better use.

The other option was this pair of gloves, which is also from ZenandCoffee. This is actually my current runner up, even though I originally shied away from it because it seemed a little too gothic. I tend toward dark colors, and I'm really trying to avoid that for Hatter. So I discarded the idea. I've since rethought that, and think it would be a load of fun to have the ribbons in bright, clashing colors, with the laces being different colors and all that. I'm actually wobbling between this pair and the other pair from ZenandCoffee. They both can work wonderfully in different ways. Decisions, decisions, decisions....

The Doctor's Ride

"Course you're not, you're not scared of anything! Box falls out of the sky, man falls out of box, man eats fish custard, and look at you! Just... sitting there."

"There's something you better understand about me, 'cause it's important and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a madman with a box!"

"TARDIS key, of course!"

"The question is, what do we do now? Either you turn off your clever machine or I'll blow you and you new paradigm into eternity."
"And yourself."
"Occupational hazard."
"All right, it's a Jammie Dodger, but I was promised tea!"

Doctor's Orders: Don't Blink

"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead."
"The Angels Have The Phone Box!"

"Fascinating race, the Weeping Angels. The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely. No mess, no fuss, they just zap you into the past and let you live to death."

Okay, so they even have Weeping Angel light switches. I couldn't pass this one up, even though the quality is only so-so.

"They don't exist when they are being observed. The moment they are seen by any other living creature they freeze into rock. No choice, it's a fact of their biology. In the sight of any living thing, they literally turn into stone. And you can't kill a stone. Of course, a stone can't kill you either, but then you turn your head away. Then you blink. Then, oh yes, it can. Don't blink. Blink and you're dead."

Baby Doctors

Okay, so, while I'm traveling, I delved into my cache of cool items, and I came up with a few interesting ones. Because I'm not at home, I don't have the leisure to expound upon the huge clothing wisdom that is mine, so I'm sticking to quotes, pictures, and links.

Have fun. I had another onesie that was really cool, but now I can't find it. :(

"Are you really a babysitter?"
*Doctor pulls out Psychic Paper*
"I think you'll find that I'm universally recognized as a mature and responsible adult."
"It's... just a lot of wavy lines."
"Yeah. Shorted out. Finally, a lie too big."

*a little while later*
"That's disgusting! What is that?"
"Its an apple."
"Apple's rubbish. I hate apples. Yogurt's my favorite, give me yogurt."

Japanese Peasant vs. Mad Hatter

That pretty much sums up the long description of this beautiful and versatile blouse from GoGothic. The rose is adjustable and can be placed about anywhere. The looseness of this blouse is very cool and collected, making for a flowing design. I like the contrast of the colors and design here. There is a pattern, but it isn't a loud pattern. It is sedate, peaceful and calm.

There is a less sophisticated version of the rose design that I quite like, and actually may settle on for my Mad Hatter costume. I like how the strips of fabric are used to sort of hold everything together, and may end up adding my own raggedy strips to it, replacing the taupe strips with more colorful pieces. I think this would also complement a colorful corset, giving the slight one-off feel that I'm looking for.

Fattening Fridays: More Fudgy Goodness

As a rule, I only go to graduations if I have someone interesting to sit with. It is well known that I chatted on my phone through pretty much all of my father's graduation ceremony, and if he goes on to get a doctorate, I can guarantee the same thing will happen again. I'm so synical that I believe the only purpose of a graduation ceremony is for the graduates to get cash and giftcards from everyone they know. And then to go party. The two hours spent sitting listening to some person talk about how important you are to the future and reading off a list of names is superfluous.

Program graduations are only slightly more bearable, as they usually come with a dinner of some sort. I can handle that. Food is always a great picker-upper, plus, you can talk over it. And if the dessert is amazing, well--you can convince me to at least pretend that I'm paying attention.

This dessert was amazing. Three layers of chocolate mousses and rasberries...and I'm happy. This is one to savor. I actually tried to recreate this one, and I think I may have figured something akin to it out.

Mousse mixes in the cooking aisle were a great help, and, while I couldn't build them into perfectly standing little towers, layering them into cocktail glasses made it pretty. In the future, though, I think I shall pipe the mousse in rather than trying to spoon it in. The spoon makes things slightly messy.

Oh, yeah. And I don't like the taste of the coffee mousse instant mix. It doesn't taste like coffee, and it has some weird aftertaste. The chocolate one is awesome, though. :)

Hatta Shoes

The other day, I swung by PaylessShoes in hopes of finding some nice candy-apple red shoes. I didn't find any, but I did find these über cute brown shoes. They remind me of the saddleshoes of my childhood in design. The are all one color, obviously, and thus lack the black-and-white pattern, but they are CUTE. I hesitated to purchase them, but I think I may make a trip back to get them. They're fun, plus, I think I can use them for my Mad Hatter costume. They aren't as cute as the black and white ones from shabby apple, but I think the brown will go better with the concept I've visualized. I'm actively avoiding black for this project.

The shoes actually are supposed to tie in a bow, but I think that looks a little stupid, so here I just tucked the ends in out of sight. If I did do any sort of bow on the shoes, I think it should look more like the bows you put on packages, with LOTS of color.

I've also started collecting old spools of thread--like, the ones where the spools are wood instead of plastic. I don't know if this will work, as I doubt I could find enough spools,  but it's worth a try. If you look closely, Hatta is wearing a sort of sash of spools and bobbins. I don't necessarily want to do the exact same, but I'm considering getting a sort of knitted gypsy belt and attaching the spools in place of some of the coins or bells.  I shall most definitely be haunting the junktique stores again.

Wireless-less: Travel Woes

I am writing this on my cell phone. It is nearlyimpossible to read what I've written and impossible to load photos. My hotel is mean, in that it wants me to pay forty bucks to use the wireless while I am here ( unless I tromp downstairs and sit by the registration desk with my laptop--then I can get wireless for free).

I found this out after I had snuggled in my pjs. I am not going to change to use their wireless. So I am confined to my 3G network.

However, updates on progress: I am now in Indiana, working at a conference. My average bedtime for the last week has been 2:30 AM. Average wake-up at 7:30 or 8:00. I'm running on cahfeh and energy drinks (BWAHAHAHhahahajaja!!!) and some guy at a convenience store told me I was going to be really crazy with all those energy drinks.

He was wrong. I'm crazy naturally.
